Keep Pace with the Danube

VIA DANUBIANA
is an ecotourism trail developed by Asociația MaiMultVerde that follows the Romanian stretch of the Danube River. Its main purpose is to promote ecotourism within the Danubian communities.
At present, only certain sections of the 1,075 kilometers the Danube flows through Romania are used for tourism, even though the area’s flora and fauna are similar to those found in the Danube Delta. The region has been identified as one of the world’s most important biodiversity hotspots.
The river is home to a great diversity of rare and endangered species and habitats. It is also a region rich in cultural heritage, where the lives of locals are deeply intertwined with the life of the river.
Via Danubiana offers explorers unique experiences, from natural and cultural heritage to…

Via Danubiana – Giurgiu County
The roughly 100 kilometers of the mapped Via Danubiana section in Giurgiu County can be explored on foot or by bike, using the GPS track and the markers placed along the route. This path connects dykes, forests, villages, towns, and fields along the Danube into a single scenic trail.
Just one hour from Bucharest, the trail offers a wide range of leisure activities. Nature lovers will enjoy an impressive list of species, ideal for birdwatching and observing the specific fauna and flora of the Danube. Along the trail are several protected natural areas, home to over 300 plant species and a rich fauna that includes important species of invertebrates, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and mammals.

Keep Pace with the Danube
Via Danubiana – the trail that turns you toward the water
Over 1,000 kilometers of the Danube’s waves flow across our country. What better way to celebrate the shimmering water and the natural spectacle it creates than by walking or cycling through the forests along its banks? To bring you closer to the river, the MaiMultVerde Association invites you to explore a new ecotourism trail that unveils the natural, cultural, and historical heritage of the counties bordering the Danube in Romania.
In other words, MMV is creating Via Danubiana — a backbone for our fluid Danube — stretching alongside the river’s 1,000 kilometers, taking you across meadows, through forests, cities, and historic rural settlements.
