On April 4, 2026, in Suhaia, Asociația MaiMultVerde organized the most ambitious event of the Via Danubiana season, marking the completion of the route in Teleorman County and bringing together the local community, guests from Bucharest, public institution representatives, press, and opinion leaders.

The day began at Suhaia City Hall with the inauguration of the seventh Via Danubiana marker in the county — a new marker on the ecotourism route connecting communities along the Danube.

The event continued with a guided exploration trail, led by Alexandra Tomescu, community explorer, alongside Doru Mitrana, president of Asociația MaiMultVerde, who spoke about the area’s biodiversity and local character. Participants discovered, step by step, the relationship between landscape, water, and community, at the pace of slow exploration.

The route included a visit to the Ethnographic Museum in Suhaia, a stop at “7 Springs,” and a walk toward Lake Suhaia — part of a protected natural area known for its biodiversity and its important role in the Danubian ecosystem. The experience was completed by a kayaking session on the lake, offering a direct perspective on the landscape and its fragility.

The event brought together a diverse community of participants — from local residents to guests from urban areas, as well as content creators, specialists, and representatives of local and national press, present to document the experience on the ground.

Public institution representatives also played an important role in the event, contributing to the dialogue about sustainable development in the region and the long-term need for such initiatives. Among them were Ștefania Simion, Presidential Advisor on the Environment, and Mihai Drăgan, Director of Communications at the Ministry of Environment, Waters and Forests, who emphasized the importance of connecting public policies with on-the-ground realities and community-driven initiatives. Both guests highlighted the significance of such initiatives in this part of Romania, particularly given that Teleorman County is one of the country’s more economically vulnerable regions.

The discussions were further enriched by contributions from Doru Mitrana, President of Asociația MaiMultVerde, and Paula Tudor Cămîrzan, Via Danubiana project manager, alongside guests from the fields of public policy and expert knowledge, leading to a grounded conversation about the role of ecotourism in the sustainable development of local communities.

The day concluded at Potcoava Dunării, around a community table with locally sourced dishes, in a setting that brought participants together for a moment of socializing and reflection on how nature, community, and local initiatives can collectively shape the future of these places.

The Suhaia event marks not only the end of a series of activities held in Teleorman County, but also the consolidation of a community around Via Danubiana — a project that continues to grow through local involvement, exploration, and collaboration.
