Ciobanu Island

Located just beneath the Friendship Bridge, Ciobanu Island is one of many Danube islands formed by sediment accumulation in the riverbed, creating a unique habitat for various plant and animal species. The island has sandy terrain and wetland vegetation. Though small, it plays an important ecological role—especially in a landscape dominated by modern infrastructure like the bridge itself.

Ostrov Mocanu Island

A wild beach, forest, fine sand, and gentle waves from passing boats await here. The sunsets are breathtaking, whether viewed from a boat or the riverbank. What more could you wish for on a scorching summer day after a long, hectic schedule? The island is part of a network of Danube islets and branches. Frequently flooded during the spring high waters, the island is home to lush and diverse vegetation.

Old Beach of Giurgiu (Ramadan)

One of the most popular and accessible beaches for Giurgiu locals, this spot has been a meeting place since the interwar period, when Giurgiu thrived as a bustling city with an active social life. After World War II and throughout the communist era, the beach fell into neglect due to urbanization and industrialization. Still, the potential for revitalization remains a topic of local interest.

Gostinu Beach (“Gostinești”)

Known as the “Vama Veche of the Danube,” Gostinu Beach lies at the edge of the village of the same name and attracts more tourists each year. Just 20 kilometers from Giurgiu, the area remains undeveloped from a tourism standpoint—it lacks accommodations or restaurants—but visitors are drawn here for the tranquility and the simple joy of swimming in the river.
